Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) at UCF is an educational program designed to give men and women the opportunity to become Air Force officers while completing a college degree. Scholarship opportunities are available. Air Force ROTC can be completed in 6 academic terms if coordinated in advance with the Air Force ROTC detachment. The AFROTC unit admissions officer is available to explain the requirements and assist in developing an academic plan that includes the required Air Force ROTC courses. The Professional Officer Course (POC) is a two-year course of instruction normally taken during the junior and senior years. However, the POC can be taken during the senior year and a year of graduate school or two years of graduate school. The curriculum covers Air Force leadership and management and National Defense Policy. POC classes include three hours each week of classroom instruction along with a two-hour leadership laboratory and physical fitness sessions. Four- and Three-Year Programs Students transferring without an associate's degree usually enter the General Military Course (GMC). GMC courses include the same leadership laboratory and fitness sessions as the POC, but classroom instruction is limited to one hour per week. Four-year students will start by taking the freshman classes. Three-year students have the option of dual enrolling in both the freshman and sophomore courses of instruction or taking only the sophomore class. Two-Year Program The Air Force ROTC Two-Year Program allows community college transfer students to obtain commissions as Air Force officers while completing their undergraduate studies at the University of Central Florida. The basic requirement for entry into the program is that the students have at least two academic years remaining either at the undergraduate or graduate level. Entry into the Professional Officer Course is on a competitive basis. Applicants will be selected on the basis of an examination (the Air Force Officer Qualifying Test), their academic record, an Air Force medical evaluation, an interview with the Professor of Aerospace Studies (AFROTC), and a physical fitness test. All interested applicants need to contact the Air Force ROTC office to coordinate program entry. Two-year students transferring in the fall term should contact Air Force ROTC by November 1 st of the year prior to transfer. Scholarships There are scholarships available on a competitive basis. Scholarships generally cover the full cost of tuition for the university. Each scholarship pays for tuition, books, and lab fees. Also, each contracted student (scholarship and non-scholarship) receives a tax-free allowance each month while enrolled in the POC ($350/mo for juniors, $400/mo for seniors). Application for scholarships may be initiated at any time, but no later than January of the year enrollment in the fall term is anticipated.
