Education Program Admission Requirements

Through the Teacher Education Bill 2986 signed by the governor on June 11, 2004 , the College of Education admission requirements have changed for teacher preparation programs. The General Knowledge Test (GKT) of the Florida Teacher Certification Examination (FTCE) may now be used as both an admission and graduation requirement for state-approved teacher preparation programs. The College Level Academic Skills Test (CLAST) will continue to be an admission option for students, but does not satisfy graduation requirements for the FTCE (unless the CLAST was passed prior to July 1, 2002).

Please note that all students seeking an Associate of Arts or baccalaureate degree from a State of Florida institution are required by the State to satisfy the CLAST requirement. The CLAST or CLAST alternative*** continues to be a graduation requirement. Most students satisfy the CLAST alternative requirement by completing their composition and mathematics courses with a 2.5 grade point average.
