CLAST (College Level Academic Skills Test)

The College-Level Academic Skills Test (CLAST) is designed to ensure that students have achieved communication and computation skills commensurate with successful completion of the lower division course work. All students seeking an Associate in Arts or Baccalaureate degree from a Florida state institution must meet the CLAST requirement. CLAST can be taken after the completion of 18 hours of course work and should be completed by 60 hours. Transfer students with more than 60 credit hours should take CLAST during their first term at UCF.

Transfer students who have met all requirements for the A.A. except for CLAST may be admitted. Community college transfers should have "General Education Requirements Met" noted on their transcripts. If the CLAST requirement has not been satisfied and the 36 hours of upper division credit have been earned, enrollment in future terms at UCF will be prohibited until the CLAST requirement has been satisfied.

Every degree-seeking student must satisfy the CLAST requirement either by passing all four sub-tests of the CLAST or by meeting the CLAST alternative criteria. A student can meet the English language skills, reading, essay, and/or math alternatives by:

• Earning a 2.5 GPA in the equivalent of Composition I and Composition II; 2.5 GPA in two specific college math courses OR
• Earning a minimum SAT score of 500 verbal; minimum SAT score of 500 math OR
• Earning an ACT reading score of 22; ACT English score of 21; ACT math score of 21

If you believe that you might meet these alternative criteria, you must go to the University Testing Center (407-823-5109) (HPH 106), or visit http://sarc.sdes.ucf.edu/clastalternative.html to complete the CLAST Alternative Application Form. You will receive a written response indicating your CLAST alternative status once your application is processed. If you are seeking a degree in Education, please speak with an advisor about the use of CLAST alternatives. Please note that transfer students who already have a bachelor's degree do not have to meet the CLAST requirement.
