Special sections of general education courses with enrollments limited to 20 students, interdisciplinary seminars, Honors courses in the student's major, lectures, and other enrichment activities are available to UCF students participating in The Burnett Honors College. The college offers two tracks of study, University Honors and Honors in the Major. UNIVERSITY HONORSThe University Honors track is a four-year program consisting of 12 credit hours of Honors courses taken in the General Education Program (GEP), one credit hour of Honors Symposium, and differing upper division requirements depending on the student's college of major. Students must maintain a UCF GPA of 3.2 and a 3.0 Honors GPA to remain in good standing in University Honors. Community college transfer students may be admitted directly into University Honors at the junior level if their home institution has entered into a special articulation agreement with The Burnett Honors College and if the student meets certain entrance requirements. The Burnett Honors College requires that students maintain high academic and ethical standards in order to graduate with University Honors or Honors in the Major distinction.HONORS IN THE MAJORHonors in the Major is designed to encourage the best junior and senior students to undertake original and independent work within their major field, involving writing a thesis or completing an equivalent, creative, and innovative project (at least 6 credit hours). The student must also orally defend the thesis or project before the Thesis Committee. Students must have completed at least 60 semester hours of college credit including at least 12 graded upper division hours at UCF; they must have an overall upper-division GPA of at least 3.2 and have a 3.5 in their major to be eligible for this program. Each of UCF's colleges awards several competitive scholarships of up to $1,000 to students participating in Honors in the Major. UCF’s regional campuses at Daytona and Brevard also participate in this scholarship program. More information regarding Honors in the Major can be found at http://www.honors.ucf.edu/HIM_general.html. Students graduating either in University Honors or Honors in the Major or both, receive the Honors Medallion at graduation that is worn with their academic regalia at the commencement ceremonies.
