GENERAL ADMISSION PROCEDURES

All interested applicants must complete the UCF application for admission and include a $30.00, nonrefundable application fee. Students may apply online at our web site, www.ucf.edu. Applicants must also request official transcripts from each educational institution attended to be forwarded directly to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Students should apply several months in advance of their anticipated enrollment date. Mail admission applications to: Undergraduate Admissions Office, University of Central Florida, P.O. Box 917059, Orlando, FL 32891-7059.

Questions concerning admission requirements and applications should be forwarded to the same address or by calling 407-823-3000. Status of admission applications can be viewed at http://my.ucf.edu. Applications for admission will be accepted up to one year prior to the start of the term desired.

Students who have submitted an application to UCF and did not attend may reactivate the original application within one year of the term for which they first applied. To update the application, students may complete a reactivation form at our web site, http://www.admissions.sdes.ucf.edu.

DEADLINES FOR TRANSFER APPLICATIONS FOR:

Spring: November 1, Summer: March 1, Fall: July 1

TRANSFER APPLICANTS

All college transfer applicants must have a minimum grade point average of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale for all college-level academic course work attempted and be in good standing (minimum 2.0 GPA). Admission to the university is competitive and meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission. Students who have completed the A.A. from a Florida public community college are given priority consideration. Other students should present a strong academic record to be competitive in the admissions process. In addition, credit for grade forgiveness is awarded only when it is used as part of an Associate in Arts degree from a Florida public community college or state university, with the exception of courses taken previously at UCF. Although all college-level course work transferred from a regionally accredited institution is indicated on the UCF transcript, applicability of the course work toward a degree is determined by the college or department of the major.

Completion of the admissions process at the earliest date possible is critical. Registration will not be allowed without the completion and approval of the Student Health Form. All undergraduate degree-seeking students are required to attend orientation prior to enrollment. Information on orientation is mailed to all students once admitted to the university.

TRANSFER ADMISSION CATEGORIES

1. DEGREE SEEKING
Associate in Arts Degree Graduates

  • A.A. graduates from Florida public community colleges and Florida state universities are governed by the Articulation Agreement between the state universities and public community colleges of Florida, as provided in Florida Statute.  The agreement states that except for limited access programs, admission as a junior to the upper division of one of the state universities shall be granted when the student transfers directly after completing the A.A. degree. A GPA of 2.0 from the last institution attended and a 2.0 GPA overall are required
  • Students need not wait until the A.A. is complete to apply to UCF. An offer of admission may be made that is contingent upon completion of the A.A., thus allowing the student to attend orientation and begin processing housing applications in a timely manner
  • Per the Articulation Agreement, the university catalog in effect at the time of the student’s first enrollment in any Florida public community college or state university shall govern common program prerequisites. However, the student must request that the original catalog year be made part of the UCF record. This request should be made through the UCF Registrar’s Office during the first semester of enrollment at UCF. The student must maintain continuous enrollment (as defined in UCF’s catalog) and transfer directly to UCF within two semesters of the last term of enrollment at the Florida public community college or state university

Students who have earned 60 credit hours or more without a Florida public A.A.
Applicants who wish to be admitted as upper division students must have met all of the following requirements:

  • A minimum of 60 semester hours of academic course work
  • The English and Mathematics requirements of the Gordon Rule
  • A minimum of eight semester hours of college instruction in a single foreign language (This requirement applies to those students without the required two units of a single foreign language in high school.)
  • Good academic standing, have a minimum 2.5 GPA at the last institution, and overall 60 semester hours or more of transferable credit

Students who have earned fewer than 60 credit hours
All college transfer applicants with fewer than 60 semester hours of acceptable credit must meet UCF’s freshman high school unit, high school academic grade point average, and minimum SAT or ACT score requirements. In addition, students must have at least a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 system for all college-level academic courses attempted, be in good academic standing, and have a 2.5 GPA from the last institution attended.  Meeting these minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.

2. NON-DEGREE SEEKING
This classification allows qualified students to enroll in selected courses at the university without satisfying requirements for admission to degree-seeking status. Successful completion of courses while in this classification does not provide a basis for regular admission at a later date. Non-degree seeking status is granted in exceptional cases only, and will usually be reviewed by the Admissions and Standards Committee. Students in this category register on a space available basis and are not eligible to receive financial aid or to participate in intercollegiate sports.

3. TRANSIENT (One term enrollment only, not from a Florida public university)
Transient status is for one term only. Students in this category are not eligible for financial aid from UCF (but may be eligible at their home institution where they are degree seeking). Transient students should file a regular application by the published application deadline and furnish an official transcript from the last institution attended. Transient enrollment terminates at the end of one term and does not presuppose regular acceptance to the university. Transient students register on a space available basis and are not eligible to receive financial aid nor to participate in intercollegiate sports.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENT

To be admitted to UCF students must complete two credits/years of the same foreign language or American Sign Language in high school (document by submitting an official high school transcript) or 8-10 semester hours in the same language at the college level or pass a CLEP or other proficiency examination. Students admitted without this requirement must satisfy it prior to graduation.

To graduate with a B.A. students must demonstrate foreign language proficiency, either through college level course work or testing, equivalent to one year of college instruction. Some majors require additional proficiency. Consult this manual for graduation requirements for specific majors. High school courses will not satisfy graduation foreign language requirements.  In some cases, American Sign Language proficiency will satisfy graduation foreign language requirements (determined by the college or department of the major).  International students required to provide TOEFL scores for admission will also have satisfied the graduation requirements.

TOEFL

All students whose native language is not English may be required to provide an official TOEFL score. Students who earn an A.A. from a Florida public community college or a state university in Florida are exempt from this requirement.

TRANSFER OF CREDIT

In general, transfer credit will be granted for completion of all regular college level courses (with grades of "D" or above) earned at regionally accredited institutions. Below-college level remedial courses are not applicable toward a degree.  While "D" grades transfer, grades of "C" or higher are usually required in the major subjects and for certain General Education Program courses.

The Admissions Office prepares a "Transfer Summary Report" (TSR) of all previous college courses taken by the applicant. This report is a summary of past courses taken and not a final listing of courses accepted toward a degree.  Acceptance of courses toward a degree is solely up to the college of the student's major. An audit will be provided by the college advising office which shows how transferred courses will apply to the degree requirements.

CLEP

credit will be awarded provided the scores meet the state guidelines. If CLEP credit is a part of an Associate in Arts degree from a Florida public community college or state university, it is accepted at UCF.  CLEP credit is evaluated on an individual basis per state policy, and official CLEP scores must be submitted from the Educational Testing Service (ETS) to receive course equivalencies, Princeton, NJ 08541, (609) 921-9000 to receive course equivalencies. The UCF code number needed for requesting scores is 5233.

Advanced Placement (AP)

credit will be awarded for scores of 3, 4, or 5, per state guidelines as stated in the catalog. If AP credit is part of an Associate in Arts degree from a Florida public community college or state university, it is accepted at UCF per state guidelines.  AP credit is evaluated on an individual basis per state guidelines, and official AP scores must be submitted from the Educational Testing Service (ETS), Princeton, NJ 08541, (609)921-9000. The UCF code number needed for requesting scores is 0735.

Military

credit may be evaluated on the basis of the recommendations of the American Council of Education (A.C.E.) when official credentials have been presented. Credit may be granted when courses are equivalent to those offered by the university. However, recommendations by the A.C.E. are not binding upon the university. If military credit is part of an Associate in Arts degree from a Florida public community college or state university, it is accepted at UCF.  Military credit is evaluated on an individual basis, per UCF policy when proper credentials have been submitted. Credit is not awarded for basic training or for DANTES credit.

LIMITED ACCESS PROGRAMS

Admission to the university does not guarantee admission to a limited access program, and some majors at the university limit the number of students who may enroll. Limited access status is justified when student demand exceeds available resources such as faculty, instructional facilities, or equipment, or when specific accrediting requirements apply. Criteria for admission are selective to include: indicators of ability and indicators of performance, creativity, or talent to complete required work within the program. For admission to limited access programs, community college transfer students with Associate in Arts degrees from Florida public community colleges are given equal consideration with UCF students, per the Articulation Agreement.

DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED FOR ADMISSION

All supporting admissions documents must be received directly from the issuing institution or testing agency to be considered official. All final supporting documents must be received by Undergraduate Admissions no later than 10 days after the first day of classes. Those students who have not submitted completed records by the deadline will be placed on administrative hold. Students with incomplete records will not be permitted to register for a future term until all transcripts and other required documentation have been received. Students whose records are not satisfactory may be placed on academic probation, have their admission status changed to non-degree or transient, may become ineligible for financial assistance, and may, in some cases, be withdrawn from the university.

IMMUNIZATION

Registration is not allowed without the completion and approval of the Student Health Form and immunization records. In order for a student to register, the State University System of Florida requires the following:

  • All students born after 1956 are to present documented proof of the immunity to Rubeola (10 day measles)
  • All students under the age of 40 are to present documented proof of immunity to Rubella (German measles)
  • All students, regardless of age, are to submit a signed Student Health Form

Please refer to the Student Health Form for specific details of the requirements and acceptable documentation.
